Grandpa will be missed.

For those of you that have not heard yet, Matthew's grandfather, on his dad's side passed away Saturday night.  Its been a pretty rough couple of days, and and its probably going to just get rougher.  I believe we're flying out either Thursday or Friday and coming back Sunday.

Aside from that, we had a most enjoyable relaxing weekend.  Friday was Red Rocks V. Michigan at the U.  The Utes received their season high.  Saturday, we found out the bad news, but Matt still insisted we go hang with our good good friends Matt and Jenn, so we did, we helped them put together a puzzle, had some laughs, and watched some movies.  We got home super late, and unfortunately slept through our alarm for church.. ooops.  Sunday evening we went to my parents house for our own awesome little Oscar Party!  I love the dresses!! That's by far the best part, and I love that Kate Winslet and Sean Penn won!  YAY!  Then when we got home, Matt and I got in bed and had a little talk about his grandpa, and some other things, because I think we were both really anxious about bills with Matts hours being cut, and flying to NY, and some other things.  The talk helped us to relax again and then we drifted into sleep.  I only slept for about an hour and a half before I had to get up, but I was surprisingly pretty well rested.  All in all, this last week has been mixed with tough and sad things, and very happy moments.  I guess that's life.  =D  At least I get to go through this with my best friend!

Such Negativity

So, I've realized once again (because I'm so sharp) that most of my blogs have been pretty negative.  And I also blog about a lot of stuff that doesn't matter.  I'm now going to be positive!  Tomorrow is MY Friday, followed by my three day weekend! WOOP!  On the actual Friday evening we are going up to the U of U to see the #1 ranked Gymnastics team compete against Michigan.  So stoked.  Also, this week has been pretty good, I was able to go to Wal-Mart today for a laundry basket and I left with ONLY a laundry basket!  WOOHOO SELF CONTROL!  I'm getting better and it feels great!  However I did make Matt buy me a pair of "fat" pants because until I drop 15 lbs I'll wear them everyday! HAH! Hopefully thats not forever!  I'm pretty confident that I can lose it, Matt and I are going to start taking walks together, and eating better... mostly just not eating so late.  WISH US LUCK!

Stupid neighbors

Hey guys, sorry for getting all political down there, but sheesh you know?

So anyways, I arrived home from work this morning to find that the mail I had put out yesterday (because I always remember to do it when its a stinkin HOLIDAY!) was a little saggy.  I got out of my car, and realized that of the TWO Netflix dvd's and insurance thing I'd put out, only the insurance doc was left.  SOMEONE STOLE OUR NETFLIX!  I wish I knew who, because you can bet your bottom dollar that not only will the sun come out tomorrow, but I would report their butts and let them serve the mandatory 5 year sentence and pay the 250,000 dollar fine for tampering with my mail.  Ugh.  I feel so violated.  But I called Netflix and they said that since it wasn't technically our fault, we don't have to pay to replace them.  Neat-o!

What's done is done.

I'm so tired of hearing about how horrible Obama is.  Good grief, he won the election, he's the president, its a little late to be whining.  Give him a chance, if he sucks, he sucks, if he does something good, great!  Whining and fighting about him is not going to change anything.  He's the President, maybe if more people united behind him, other countries wouldn't think America is a joke.

And that's all I have to say about that.

Bitter sweet!

Hello!  I just had the best french toast... a little late in the day I know, but I fell asleep and when I woke up I was trying to figure out what to make  for dinner.  We decided on chili!  In the mean time I hadn't had breakfast  so Matt volunteered to make us french toast! YUM!

Matt is home with me today... no, not because of the holiday, but because Smith's cut their hours so they have two hundred hours for 150 people.  And don't worry, they just keep hiring more people.  So Matt hours have been more than cut in half.  These next few weeks until Matt can find something else are going to be tough.  Its sad because he's not getting his hours, but I love hanging out with him... thus the title above!  Anybody have any job ideas?  Please let us know.

Another great weekend over...

So, as you already know, Valentines Day was great, and so was today!  I love just being lazy with my husband, even though being a little more active would flatter our figures better.  =D  Today, I forgot to set my alarm so that we could get up for church, but its ok because I wasn't feeling too hot anyways.  So we just lazed around, we've watched America's Next Top Model all day, ate popcorn, ate Otter Pops, listened to my family fix some of the outlets in the house that were either wired incorrectly, or just not grounded, and cuddled!  It was just what I needed to end my weekend and get ready for the start of another week.  Hoping that Matt gets some more hours this week, because if he doesn't I don't know what we'll do.  Tomorrow he's applying to work for the Census Bureau because they're hiring workers on at $18.50/hr and the job supposedly lasts a year and a half.  So hopefully he gets that one, or the other one we've been hoping for.  Life is just crazy right now, but its also amazing!  I am just so happy to have the husband I do, I feel so blessed and lucky everyday.  He works so hard, and he's just such a good person!  I'm the luckiest gal in the world!

Happy V-Day!

As most of you know, from either speaking to me, or reading my previous posts, Valentines Day has not been one of my faves.  I just never saw the point in it.  TODAY ROCKED!  Matt and I slept in (he played hooky), then we relaxed some more, then around three o'clock we started getting ready, and I took Matt to see the NEW & IMPROVED Friday the 13th.  It was pretty great, we both really enjoyed it.  Then we drove around for a bit and tried to figure out where to have dinner, after about an hour of this, and laughing the whole way, we decided on Happy Sumo.  Matt ordered Sushi of course, but I decided to try something different.  I went with the Siam Street Noodles.  FANTASTIC!   Then we had Creme Brulee Cheesecake... yeah, creme brulee cheesecake folks, it exists.  I never new cheesecake could ever get better.  Then we came home, got comfy, finished Death Race (we both fell asleep last night during it) and have had an amazing evening.  This is by far the absolute best Valentines Day ever, and I'm really excited for next year, I have some awesome ideas!

YES!!!

Its official! I have the best husband ever!!!  Just thought you all should know. =D

Matt is such sweetheart.  Matt's work has cut his hours because Smith's cut their hours.  He is no longer doing site checks, however they did allow him to keep his rate of pay (for the moment anyways).  So Matt has been off of work for the last three days, COUNT THEM 3 LADIES AND GENTS, but guess what?  They are making him work on Saturday, our first Valentines Day.  He called and tried to change so that he could work one of the last three days, but its a no go.  So we've celebrated our own Valentines Day both yesterday and today.  I was not feeling well tonight and he cooked an amazing dinner, and then lit candles, and wow, he's just been amazing.  This is by far my best Valentines Day so far even though Matt will have to work.  Then Saturday when he gets off I will take him to dinner and to a movie.  This is the first year I've been excited about Valentines Day! I LOVE IT!

Damage

The damage on the Mustang is the clutch, and its about $585 to fix.  AND get this, they told Matt that if he could get it in before 9 AM tomorrow, it would be done Friday, however, if he doesn't make it in til after 9 AM it won't be done til Monday.  The funny thing is, they open at 8:30 AM, interesting how that half hour of time is the difference between Friday and Monday.  LAME.  Oh well. At least it will be fixed.

Stimulus

I'm not against the Stimulus package. It seems like it will help a lot more than the $750 billion bailout for the financial institutions. As far as I can tell, its supposed to help the unemployed keep some type of insurance that they don't have to pay through the nose for, it should help create more jobs, which is good. And it should help those that have lost their jobs, and are about to lose their homes, keep at least that.

Not everyone is ever going to agree on whats best for the country and no plan will ever be perfect, but it seems like a start.

UPDATE!!!!

FINALLY SOME GOOD NEWS!

Today, while I was napping, Matt called me from work. He had faxed in all his reports and his DAILY ACTIVITY SHEET. Then the office called him I guess, to say they got it all, and he asked about the lame MILEAGE paper. "Oh, no, we got the one we needed." "You meant the Daily Activity Sheet?" "Yeah, I just didn't know what it was called." PHEWW! Wow, Matt works with some real special individuals over there. What kind of office manager doesn't know her own forms that she PROBABLY made up? I'll tell you, Matt's office manager. So, anyways, Matt and I were paranoid about nothing. Thank goodness. I don't know what I would've done. Now all is good in the hood. Happy day. Now we just need to make sure he gets all his hours. Then he can bounce. I'm so done with Command Protection.

Hopeless

Have you ever felt completely hopeless? Like your sinking deeper and deeper? That would be me. Matt's stupid job. UGGGGH. They just called him and said that in order for them to verify his hours they need him to turn in mileage sheets! WHAT MILEAGE SHEETS??? They told him as long as he drove his own car (which he does, and now its dead, thanks to them) he wouldn't need to bother with mileage sheets. Oh, I'm pretty sure they are trying to create reasons to get rid of him. I'm so mad! WHY CAN'T WE JUST GET A BREAK??? He has applied for this other job but he won't know for another week or two and then he won't start until the first week of March! We can't afford for him to lose his job, and what if he doesn't get the other one!? OH MY GOSH I'M GOING CRAZY and I don't know what to do. I'm completely and utterly lost. RARR!

Total Relaxation: Ruined.

Matt and I had a great week last week (besides the Mustang incident) and a greater weekend. It was so relaxing to not have to hurry, to take a break from my organizational extravaganza, to enjoy good food and friends, and of course hanging out at home with my husband.

This week. Ugh. Already I'm super annoyed with Matt's work... again. SO, last week they scheduled Matt to work at the U Bookstore on Saturday, he called them Thursday to tell them about his car and whatnot, they then told him, "oh yeah, we're trying to cut back on hours at the bookstore." So he didn't have to work Saturday! YAY! Apparently this Saturday they want him at the U Bookstore. He's never had to work on the weekends until now, now they schedule him every week! UGH. They also didn't send him the schedules for the other guys working so he can do his sight checks. We're kind of starting to think they demoted him without telling him. EW. All because he refused to work on Sundays. They just really PEEVE me. AND we have the Draper Temple open house on Friday, but he's supposed to work a sight from 2-10 pm. AAAAAAHHHHH. I can't even tell you or explain to you how dang pissed I am.

This is the beginning of what I can tell is going to be a fabulous week. Grrr.

And, the guy that was supposed to work on Matt's car... got sick all weekend apparently. So the owner sent it to a shop accross the street, and THEY are supposed to contact us with the problem. We'd better not get charged.

SteinMart

I'm pretty stoked.  Jenn text me this morning and said that since Matt is studying today, she's going to SteinMart.  For those of you that don't know, SteinMart is a store kind of like HomeGoods or TJ Maxx.  I love it, and its super close to my house.  So, Jenn and I are probably going later. YAY!  The adventures of Barb and Jenn trying to find great deals on stuff for our homes continues!  Me + Jenn + ANY AWESOME CHEAP STORE = The most awesome adventure day ever.  Plus, later Matt and Jenn are coming over to watch the third installment of the Resident Evil movies, and probably play some games.  I love the weekends where you just get to go with the flow, relax.

PS-- I just saw the best commercial.  The IKEA one with the lady talking to the people while they sleep, and she's like "all you need now is soothing whale music.... OOOOOOAAAAAHHHH". HAH!

Mustang Madness

So, about an hour after Matt left for work today, I got a call that his car had died.  It was making a weird squeaky noise and had major loss of power.  So, I looked up the number to the place he bought his car, because he has a warranty.  Luckily, they had moved their location to right down from where Matt was, so we didn't have to tow it.  Unfortunately the place was closed, but Matt was able to get ahold of the owner and he said that the warranty covers, the engine, the drive train and other major stuff.  BUT it does NOT cover the clutch, and I think that's what the problem is.  So anyways, thats the great ending to my happy week.

I was going to rearrange our bedroom furniture today, but I measured the walls, and the wall I'd like to move the bed to, is 2 to 3 inches shorter than the wall its on now, so, thats a no go. Lame.  So, this is my blog today.  Pointless. I rock.

OOOOH SPOOKY!

So, Matt is not home.  He works late tonight and I miss him.  The people behind us have stupid dogs that bark all the time, and it freaks me out, because they only bark if someone is outside.  It makes me feel like I'm being watched, but mostly I think I'm paranoid because of all the interesting television I watch.

Those of you that know Matt and Jenn Van Duren, they just moved out of Royal Farms Apts in Cottonwood Heights, and were treated very poorly.  Guess what?  We lived there too and we second that.  Our A/C broke in June and it took us calling them to report problems 6 different times before they decided we needed a new one.  We went about a month and a half total without A/C during the hottest part of the year.  When we moved in, they were running a $99 move in special, and we were informed that the $99 would be refundable.  Don't even worry about how when we moved out (thank goodness) they told us it wasn't and made us pay $46 for utilities when I feel that they should have just taken it out of the $99.  They are liars, they are unprofessional, money grubbers, not to mention idiotic in general. NEVER LIVE THERE.  It is not worth it.  Such a headache.

Anyways, I'm pretty happy lately.  I've been getting more organized and reading a lot of articles on how to manage money better and get out of credit card debt.  I will be making a folder out of the articles I read, and it will be the De Rosa Family Bible Binder.  Pretty excited.  I'm becoming a better wife daily! WOOP!
